Swatches & wear test: Makeup Revolution SophX Extra Spice

Makeup Revolution is a very polarizing brand in the makeup realm. Mostly known for duping high-end makeup top sellers, they've stepped on quite a few toes🙊. I am constantly eying on thier palettes but I'm kind of put off by the mixed reviews, so I was excited when I got this one for Christmas😄.
It's a pretty warm toned palette with a few pops such as yellow, hot pink and silver. Great addition to my collection as I am still trying to get along with (now a bit deflated) warm tone trend.

I took these pictures the very night I got them, hence trying to catch the light under my nailart lightbox 🤣:
Shade names L to R:
  • Everyday – Pale purple duo-chrome with a white shift.
  • Running late - Carrot orange matte.
  • Infinity – Metallic silver.
  • Cheesecake – Chestnut brown matte.
  • Cookie Dough – Soft brown matte.
  • Dreams – Warm champagne shimmer.
  • Vitamin C - Canary yellow matte.
  • Sweet N Sour – Electric orange matte.
  • Twenty One – Cerise pink matte
  • Romance – Burgundy shimmer with a pink shift.
  • Enchanted – Wine purple matte.
  • Lakes – Dark olive green matte.
  • Brownies – Deep brown matte.
  • Chocolate Orange – Sienna brown matte.
  • Mulled Wine – Red violet matte.
  • LA Sun – Gold shimmer.
  • Aurora – Khaki green shimmer.
  • Reputation – Charcoal black matte.
All shades seem fairly pigmented and my only disappointment was Vitamin C (matte yellow) which is a bummer because it looks gorgeous😢. Shades Running late, Brownies, Lakes and especially Reputation get kind of crumbly so watch out for a bit of fallout while blending. Mettalics did not form hard pan for me (often complaint), but I do not use setting sprays to foil them. All mettalic shades applied nicely with a flat brush and swiped over the lid, and I was actually quite impressed by how buttery they are😊. My only complaint on the palette is that nasty glue smell that cheap makeup often has, but it is not a deal breaker for me 😅.

To have a bit of fun I've done a little 8 hour wear test of 2 different looks:
  • Left, top to bottom: Everyday, Romance (my favorite shade in the whole palette😍) , Running late, Twenty one & Cookie dough
  • Right, top to bottom: Reputation, Aurora, LA sun, Lakes & Vitamin C
Here's a picture of the looks at the beginning (top) and after 8 hours (bottom):
*Disclaimer: I have combo skin, but my lids are "normal" and eyeshadows rarely crease on me.
For this "look" I wore no makeup apart from Essence Cosmetics Camouflage+ concealer set with RCMA translucent setting powder on the eyelids. Eyeshadows were applied directly over this base.
My skin looks shiny on the initial picture because I put moisturizer all over my face.

Overall, I am impressed on how these eyeshadows holded up. At the end of the day I could only notice a bit of fading on the edges (especially Cookie dough shade) and all mettalics lost a bit of their sparkle but I think they faded rather gracefully without any major patching.

I'll sure be creating quite a few interesting looks with this palette 👍.
